  • Cortisol excess hits natural DNA process and mental health hard

    [28 Mar 2017] High concentrations of the stress hormone, Cortisol, in the body affect important DNA processes and increase the risk of long-term psychological consequences. These relationships are evident in a study from the Sahlgrenska Academy on patients with Cushing's Syndrome, but the findings also open the door for new treatment strategies for other stress-related conditions such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress.

  • Psychosocial programmes for children in war-torn Sri Lanka shows good results

    [27 Mar 2017] Different psychosocial rehabilitation programmes for children have somewhat different results, due to differences in resources, methodologies and objectives. But a much more significant difference appears when comparing rehabilitated children with children who have not undergone any rehabilitation at all. That shows a study from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

  • 3D bioprinted human cartilage cells can be implanted

    [24 Mar 2017] Swedish researchers at Sahlgrenska Academy and Chalmers University of Technology have successfully induced human cartilage cells to live and grow in an animal model, using 3D bioprinting. The results will move development closer to a potential future in which it will be possible to help patients by giving them new body parts through 3D bioprinting.
